    exercise ideas ?

Okay so I have a new 5yr old arabian mare...just broken, and I myself am back in the saddle green after 8yrs out of the saddle... beautiful horse an gait, foward moving, sweet disposition, a little bit cheeky and curious about everything...aka something that would normally spook other horses she wants to turn and look. She's also very considerate of her riders...though ultimately she's a one woman mare....
Anyways prior to me buying her 7 weeks ago she was only used as a brood mare and the occasional bare back ride....shes had two previous owners both who didnt do anything with her due to a sore back hoof on the near side....i had the chiro out and turns out the problem was from a long exsisting hip out on the off side from foaling....which has her twisting to compensate..shes hates riding on the off side.
Anyways im after some excersie ideas to help build up her muscle and to keep her education going once I bring her home from the trainers next week....shes is a very willing to please horse and will attempt anything...

From your picture, I don't see many hills in the background, but just trotting up hills is a great way to build hind end muscle. Also trotting poles placed any where from 3-4' apart (depending on the size of her step)are also good. I like to make sure my horses listen to me by doing lots of random transitions between walk, trot, canter, halt, and back-up. This makes them very aware of you and your cues. I also like to start in a small 10 meter circle and use my inside leg and outside rein to push the circle bigger into a 20 meter circle. Just make sure she is balanced!! You can also do it opposite- starting in a 20 meter circle and making it smaller. A "fun" way to make this exersixe harder is to have an outside bend and try to push the circle smaller. It's harder than it sounds! :) There are good books out there like 101 Exersizes For The Arena. Just mostly do things that aren't easy for her. For example my 4 year old has a hard time bending right, so we do lots of circles to the right. When this becomes easier she has either built muscle or become more flexible :)
