First Time Going English - Need Help! =]
So, I am really getting into English lately(even though there is nowhere around here to show except for EQ or Hunters), and instead of waiting until the weekends to ride my friend's already seasoned English horses, I want to try it out on my own. There are two different horses that I will be doing it with(at least until my boy Trigger is ready for me to ride), named Indian and High Five(look at them in my Horses tab).
Indian is just about the brokest horse in the world, although he is now getting a little old, and we all know how old horses get. I don't think he would have any problem with me throwing an english saddle on him and going around for an easy ride.
However, the horse I will mainly be doing it on(High Five) is broke, but still for an intermediate rider. He used to be a cutting horse, so he has never seen an English saddle in his life. I myself am a bit of a beginner at English, but I believe that I am far enough along that I can handle some stuff he might put my way. I have been riding him Western and sometimes bareback for a few years now.
So, my question is, what should I do the very first time I go to put the English saddle on him. He has never had a bareback pad on, so I don't know if he would be used to the feel of the saddle or not. Also, I am quite certain it fits, because I measured him and measured the saddle that I was going to put on him.
What should I do? Just sit it on him without cinching him up, or should I go ahead and cinch him up, and just walk him around with it on? Or, should I cinch him up and lunge him(which I have never done by the way, but my uncle could do it for me)?
Also, could I possibly get on him after I lunged, or let him get used to it, the first time I put the English saddle on him?
Ok. I wrote a novel, and confused myself because I was a little redundant. If you can make any sense out of this post please help. Hehe
