To the Future

So im working on getting my freshman college courses done, and in 2015 when I FINALLY get out of the army I will be going to college to major in Range management and Equine Science at NMSU. Im not really sure the specifics for what I want to do afterwards, I for sure want to work on one of the big ranches in either Arizona, Nevada, or New Mexico, and maybe do some work at the track.
My goal is to have a horse/cattle ranch eventually in southern New Mexico or Arizona, and to hopefully one day have a small side operation for rehabilitating and reselling exracehorses.
Does anybody have experience in this kind of work?

Are you planning on eating? And I mean that in a nice way!
You have lined out a difficult path that includes little reward. I hope you talk to a bunch of people on ranches (I lived on a working cattle ranch with 2000 head for three years) and be very clear about what you're willing to live like and do. The re-hab life is a good sentimental choice, but also fraught with the 'no money'-itis.
Same with teaching and training (been doing it for over 30 years and it's pretty good now, but...). It's really tough. Not meant as a complete downer, but you asked and it isn't going to be an easy go.
