gaining muscle

I don't know if this is the right place so sry about that

I was just wondering what the best way is for your horse to gain muscle. I have been giving my horse a break for a while letting him get used to the new barn, and now that the other horses arent taking his food he's getting a little...err...fat I need to turn his fat into muscle. Its not that bad but I want him to be more MUSCULAR. Thanks in adv. =]

Well, theres a lot of ways to gain muscle. Even just lunging daily can really help build up back muscles and trip up that belly. Daily riding helps too, up hill trail rides help legs, back, chest and butt. Even simple backing in hand helps build butt muscles. A lunging device I have used works wonders! I don't remember the exact name...I just called it the 'neck streacher'. All it is, is a surfcingle with two elastic cables that clip onto your horses bit, and run between the front legs and then connect the the girth on the surfcingle. Not only does it build lots of muscle it also encourages low head carriage. If you do use one or something similar, be careful and start out slowly. It takes a LOT of muscle and balance to move in a lower head carriage.

A high protein feed and lots of hill work will do wonders for building mucles.

Just riding at least three days a week should help to decrease his fatness level. ;) Remember to start off slowly, especially if he's not used to working regularly. Working on the bit, hillwork, and stamina rides really helped my horse build her muscles.

Hill work!! I've done a 6 week hill therapy program with my horse and it completely changed the way he carries himself and he definitely gained muscle, especially in his neck and over his topline.
