LOL Kidlets.. thats priceless :p! Sounds like something i'd say! LOL! I didn't see anything in the first post about the wee ones doing the arena riding which is why I said all that ^^

When i was helping with Summer Camp one year, my riding instructor had a lunge whip in her hand and called it "The Hearing Aid" LMAO! So I've seen that done before too =)

I'd still recommend mounting in the arena and dismounting out of the arena to get the horse's in the habit of knowing they cant pass through the gate with a rider on their back.

Jasmine is "one of those horses". Well, she was. I bought her from the lesson program and allowed them to use her under the stipulation that they only use a loose ring snaffle. Then i caught them with a SOLID KIMBERWICK in her mouth and i went right in and dumped the kid off and said "no more". He was posting by lifting himself up with the reins, then THWOMPING down in the saddle.. so for Jasmine: "Rake my face, then break my back, rake my face, then break my back... etc" Jasmine is an extremely sour horse to beginners now o.o;

I always thought it was funny when she would slowly pop her nose out, sending the kids onto her neck. Then she would slowly walk to a corner or the center of the arena, or the gate and stop. LOL!

You have to be careful that food doesn't become a "Iwon't do it without food" type of thinking but if it were an irregular offering they may want to do more.
None of the horses get treats when they are not being ridden by big kids they are being led around by parents that know nothing of horses so I don't want them to start getting mouthy in the arena

I think the whip is a good idea if I stand by the gate they wont try in but if I go to move cones ect, they know and will stop and bunch up at the gate
