Horses: 0 | Def try free jumping before under saddle, that way your weight and balance wont interfere with her ability. It will also tell you if she is willing and actually likes it. Most people who don't jump mistake the idea that you can train them to jump, but no, how they go over the first few times, is how they want to/will jump. If they don't pick up their knee's, they're never gonna. It would need to be bigger then a pole on the ground to get an accurate idea, because most horses will just canter over things, but once they are impressed they will probably over jump whatever the obstacle and pick their legs up as high as they are ever going too. Take film if you can't see in the air accurately. I agree with both Misfit and MIEventer, even though they are arguining sorta, most horses can jump cross rails, if they are sound and not completely discombobulated. But free jumping eliminates rider error, so if talent doesn't show then, you might just have a barrel racer. Her neck and head are very upright, and she might not have the correct muscling/predisposition to stretch down and over the fence, she might jump flat but could still be good if she is good with tucking her front end. Try it, I like jumping QH's, they are quick little two seater convertables, great for lower divisions, esp. jumpers. Have fun. I realized I assumed your horse was a she, I just do that, decide on a sex and stick with it, so sorry if it's a gelding hehe. |

| Sometimes its not the confo., it's wether that animal WANTS to jump. My Painter could jump 3' like nothing with beautiful hunter form, but he is a wack jobb about jumping, he just hates it. |

Different opinions =/= arguing. |

| she has a really nice head carriage and is very pretty!
conformation does come into the picture, however, not so much in the SJ world (or at least in the uk), conformation comes into it more in the working hunter classes.
all horses have the ability to jump up to at least 2ft from a standstill, so they can do it. however unless you are fully committed to it i wouldn't start something you don't want to finish as you dont want to send mixed messages!
good luck with your gorgeous horse! |
