I ride a pony in my lessons, and he is still green over fences. He needs a strong leg, otherwise he refuses (even over a crossrail, so I know we are not over facing him). However, that isn't the problem. After pops over it, he leans horribly to the inside, I try to nudge him over with my inside leg and use my outside rein, but then he gets REALLY inverted and bends toward the inside, cutting corners even more. So, what can I do to get him straighter? I am forgiving and don't bully him over the jump, just sit quietly, cluck to him, and let the jump come to me. We try to walk him after, straighten him out, then trot out. Also, Ace NEVER picks up on his right lead! We do lots of bending to the right before we ask him to canter, and he has plenty of time to warm up. When I ask him to, he just trots into the center, I push him out with my inside leg, and he picks up on his outside lead or he cross canters! I think longeing him will just frustrate him. Be mindful that I only have an hour to ride him once a week. However, I want to help Ace! What can I do???
