    herd issues

I am having a hard time training my 2yo rmh because my uncle recently added two new horses to the "herd" right now there are really two separate herds the old one and the new one. The old one included my gelding, a shire gelding and one mare rmh. THe other 'herd' is two quarters, one 24yo mare, the other 3 yo gelding. I would really like to go back to the way it was but my uncle seems to think that they will learn to get along...Any thoughts?

How was the herd before? What don't you like about the new arrangement? Have you talked to your uncle about it? And if it's your horse, you can decide which herd it stays in. Unless, of course, your uncle pays for/owns your horse..

The herd was fine before, two geldings and a mare. WIth the new arrangement it is really hard to work my horse because as soon as I put the halter on him the other two horses run up to him and I am in the middle of a horse fight. My uncle tells me to just give them time (they have been together for only 4 days). Being in my family means you are a diplomat so I have to be careful how I say things. The two rocky's are mine and my brothers, the other horses are my uncles. It will be interesting to see how the shire gets along with the quarters when the rocky's are gone...I am curious to know if anyone else has had this problem and if time will fix it. From what I know about herd dynamics it may never be one herd.

Time seems to be helping. They aren't really cohesive, but they don't start a fight every two minutes either. I rode around the 3yo mare yesterday and it was fine!
