A very difficult situation!

The thing is that it is no good saying that the halter was taken off and he was beaten with it. If he was let loose then he would have run away so apart from one whack the person would not be able to beat him.

I would say that he does seem to be frightened but this fear is of his own making.

What to do about it is difficult to say.

You say he has been tranquillised but obviously not enough!
I would go to a good horse vet and ask for some ACP tablets. Give him several so he really is doped up preferably if you can get him in a round pen of tall metal panels that he cannot knock down.

Once he is really doped you should not have any problem getting a halter on him but use a good long strong rope and I would also use a control halter.

You get the RSPCA involved using a dart gun seems to be extreme.

i have him in a stable dry and safe

hi sorry not posted a up date been really busy working with Val the horse that no one could catch, in the end I had to get a vet out to inject him due to some one trying to laso his front leg that had gone wrong and was ever so tight, it tuck 2 tubes of sedaline and 5 injections in his rump and then the 6th one got him done due to me holding on to the rope so he could not run off any were and the vet got the 6th one in the neck vain that got him down and I had him moved off the field with in a hour and he is now on my place and coming on loads just taking things slow but he is 70 % better then he was. Thank you for the interest I will post some photo's on soon look out for them :) x
The young lady with Val is my youngest daughter that is helping with him and hopefully when we start to break him in

He's a cutie. So sorry to hear what happened to him, but glad he's safe and doing so much better. Good luck with him!

Val is not allowed to give kisses and he is not allowed to check out your hands or you lose your higher position with him. His space is what is beyond your arm length. You need to be consistent in keeping him respectful.
