Horse running like crazy

Whenever I take one horse to work, 2nd one runs completely crazy and just keep running-running-running. The one taken outside doesn't seem to be care much. It happens with both of them, however paint is much worse, and she's ALL wet when I come back with qh (although qh was all wet too this week once). Is there anything I can do to stop that? Fresh hay doesn't seem to help much at this point to keep the horse occupied. :(

Adding another horse is not an option, unfortunately. I was thinking about it, but no space/resources for the 3rd one (I have rather small property). :( It may be separation anxiety, that's my guess as well, but is it gonna go away or not with time? BTW, same was happening at previous farm, where there were 4 of them (just not AS bad). It's weird in way that when I bring other horse back, the one in field try to go out from the field. If it's paint I'm brining back, the qh wants to kick her butt (so I usually back her away pretty aggressively).

Appy, how they can be worked out together? I assume should be another person around at least.. :) Or there are other ways to deal with it?

Delete, I don't quite understand how running in field is related to only one person can ride the horse to sending to slaughter?

Yes, kitten_Val, you'd need another person to work with the other horse.
It's really more or less that they're herd bound, but i guess only when left alone. It seems when you bring them out to work, they know that they're working.
Do you have toys and stuff in the paddock with them?

To be honest, i'm not really sure what to do, because the horse you are working for is fine, and it's the one you leave that has the problems.

Appy, they don't have any toys. I tried it while back (not for this purpose, but in general to keep them occupied), but it didn' work - no attention to anything (but trees gr-r-r-r!). They are little more quiet if one of my parents in paddock, but it's still an issue. :( I plan on taking them on trails later in year, and can imagine what a nightmare it'll be...

When we ride off either on the horses or with them in the trailer the babys all go nuts. Happens every time. We just leave and don't worry about it. Sometimes they settle down, other times they keep calling for an hour. If we leave in the trailer we will just get in sight of our place and see them standing quietly at the bale and as soon as we pull in the drive they go goofy again  Just make sure there your fences are secure and there is nothing they can get hurt on while your gone.

Does sound alot like seperation anxiety. Because there is only the two of them they are a pair bond, horses naturaly do this in herd situations only they would choose the pair bond themselves. But they have been put together and so have created a closness and it sounds like the qh is the dominant one out of the relationship, and so is kinda growling the paint for leaving, lol my boy Banjo used to do that when my cousin brought her horse back from pc

if you have the time and patients and means to do so then i would suggest...........
Riding were the paddocked horse can still see the ridden horse. Do that untill you are certain the paddock horse doesnt worry any more, gradually get further away, combined with short times of were the paddocked horse cant see the ridden horse.

The paddocked horse just needs to realise that when the other is taken away they are coming back again, once they know this they will be able to relax.
