Horse scared to hack on his own !

We moved yards a couple of weeks ago to a yard which had a farm ride and Last week I took my horse for his first hack there, he was really good, he was having fun, would go anywhere I asked him to.

This week however he wouldn't go onto the trail he would just stop dead I would nudge him and he would run out to the right then refuse to turn left then start bucking and rearing... However hard I tried he wouldn't go onto trail, I wasn't going to let him win, so I made my mum walk next to me with a whip to encourage him forward (she never hit him)

I was thinking long and hard about why he would of just suddenly changed then I realised on the first hack there was a horse in the distance, being ridden on the trail nowhere near us, mine wasn't trying to catch up or anything as we went down a different path but I think it reassured him, but how can I assure him he's safe?

Here's a good video on how to encourage a horse to go someplace that they don't want to go. Also works for horses that want to stay in an area but not go someplace else.

Not scared, he is barn sour and showing you he doesn't have to obey you.

Wait him out, don't battle him, just keep him headed way you want to go, and if he heads off that way, no praising, petting or anything, just ride.

As long as he keeps head in right direction, sit there.

The more times he gets by with this? The worse he will be too.
