horse wont do turns to the right

I have an 11 yr old standarbred who doesnt seem to like turning anything smaller thatn a 5 metre circle right. He will do anything bigger n he will do tight turns to the left.he has been trained for stock work and barrel racing etc. he will start the turn get half way round n then turn to the inside.he is an ex trotter. Do you have any ideas what his problem mayb be. Any help is much appreciated

Do you mean he is an ex-racer? Track horses turn to their left. Its common for ex-racers to be difficult on their right side.

Have you also check for pain?

mmm as Kristy said it could be pain, but because it was a ex racer its use to going left. I believe flatwork could fix that. When you are trying to turn- how do you ask? Ovibisally he needs help going right-so do as much as you can ie leg, open the inside rein ect.
If he is a ex barrel racer they should not have any problem turning either way! That's if he was successful....... (not saying that he wasn't)
But first of all check for pain first, but theres not much that good hard work can't fix.

Is he properly worked on both sides?

If not work him more on his bad side, to improfe bending and flexibility. Go back to the basics, and slowly prepare him for the tight turns.
You might want to rthink about some additional massages, and lots of warm up so the muscles are soft before you try tight turns.
