How do I prepare my horse to carry me and my child

I have an 11 year Arabian gelding who was green broke for the majority of his life. Four months ago I brought him to a professional trainer and now he is well trained for simple trail rides. Nothing fancy or special, just listens well, responds to requests and doesn't spook easily. But it is on going, of course.

I have a 15 month old daughter and my dream is for me and her to ride the trails together one day.

So my question is this: What can I do now to prepare my horse to carry me and my child on trail rides?

It will be a learning experience for her as well, but I want him prepared before I bring her into the equation. Which I think she will be old enough to ride around age 3-4. So we have plenty of time!
