Oh they most certainly DO learn their names.
That's what I've always thought as well. If one of them is doing something in the paddock they shouldn't be doing I can bark from the house and only that horse will raise it's head.
Sounds like the car or truck coming up the street will get everyone's attention.
We call the pony Max, although the kids at the first foster barn were calling him Noel, due to the time of year he was found. We thought Max was a good name as it's a short and "sharp" name which we thought might be easier for him to get used to.
This morning he was trying to get at the apple tree which is blocked off with deer fencing. He moved pretty quick when he heard his name.....so maybe it's starting to sink in.
