How to teach a bow

How can I teach my horse to bow?
Do I need anything besides treats and patience? Haha.

Is it 100% necessary to teach him to bow? It will easily start bad habits ( mainly with the farrier) I suggest you don't teach him to bow unless you actually need it for something. Which I don't see what that would be.

It's not really necassry. I'm actually just curious as to how someone teaches a horse to bow, or atleast instill the thought of what they want.

i am teaching my horse to bow for my grandma to get up and ride. my doc says she needs more exercise and she wants to go for a ride so he needs to help her up lol... but i am working with a trainer and we are using little treats mostly just praise and a long lead rope. 2 twenty minute sessions and he is already starting to give a good bow and stay balanced. afew more weeks and i will give it a try... we are hoping the bow is easier for him then completely laying down and having to get up with a rider...

Hey ladies, just wanted to give you a farrier's perspective on this. I've never taught them to bow, but to lay down and I was concerned that they'd try to lay down every time a foot was picked up. So far none of them have. I wouldn't worry about it too much they'll know the difference.
