Find a saddle that fits properly, and take them out on the trail.

Simple as that.

^^^ exactly. I've taken many a dressage horse out on the trails with no trouble at all. Are there any specific issues that you're having?

It's what I am in the midst of right now!
My Makana was a dressage horse, accustomed to the "english" style, and she was having a heck of a time getting used to loose reins.
We spend a lot of time in the round pen, working on basics, getting our communication down pat.
She's SUCH a smart horse!
She is really quick on the uptake, learns things exceptionally fast, and retains the knowledge week in week out.
Be patient, work on your basics, and you'll be riding trails real quick like champs!
