I feel like I don't know enough...

For some reason: I feel really inexperienced with horses now that I am working Blu more and with lunging and English. I have been doing ground work and lunging with trot poles but, even though I know we are, I also feel like we aren't going anywhere. Hopefully we can get Blu to the fairgrounds this week. That way I van work in the round pen and ride more. Any ideas on why I feel this way? Lol. Sorry....

Sometimes I get that feeling too. Don't feel bad though! We are woman and we have tons of emotions, that do crazy things on us somtimes. I'm sure that's all it is Blu!

Lol. Ya I hope that's all it is. I want to do more exercises that will make him WANT to be with me rather than feel that he HAS to. I tried join-up and it doesn't seem to have much affect on him now. Ideas?

I always just go out to see my horses just to love them. I don't work them every time I see them.

Ya, I try not to make my presence mean just food or work. Before I feed him I pet him and rub him down. Then I feed him. I sort of feel like...I treat him like a person :roll: ...he won't open up to me.

Maybe don't work him for a day, or something and do something you know he loves. Let's say he loves eating grass. Lead him around and make him think he's not working but actually just out to get grass. But occasionally pick his head up, make him like back up or something, change spots and let him eat again.

That will make him think that when you and him go somewhere, he's going to do something he likes to do.

I'm sure we all get that feeling at some point or another :) just push on through!

Don't get mad. Your going somewhere - you have to be.
My trainer always says "All riding is horse training. Sometimes it's good or bad." But it seems like you know what your doing, and when you need help you come here. Everyone here is hear to help. I bet you'll be doing fine, and I'm sure taking him to the fairgrounds'll help.

Lol tiff has it right :) we are woman full of emotions and when our beloveds don't seem to be getting anywhere we get our knickers all in a twist lol

I know exactly how you feel though. Me and jarred have been doing really well and were making great progress but the last week or so he has been terrible and it feels like we have learned nothing (to read more about that check out the general riding section soon cause im going to post in there about it). It almosts seems we are going backwards and meanwhile im nearly eating dirt everytime I ride him. It gets me down no end but I know we will get through it you always do

I think it's very easy to feel that way, and I'm sure everyone on here has at one time or another! You can't get discouraged or frustrated, esp when things aren't how you wish they were. I honestly feel like the more you learn about horses the more you realize there is to learn! I think that's the beauty/challenge of horses, no matter how great you are with them, there's always room to grow. Be patient, but proud of how much you've accomplished so far!

As far as Blu 'wanting' to be with you, maybe he wants to be with you but just doesn't show it the way you want him to.
