I'm New and I need help!

I need some tips on how to teach my horse to side pass!
He will side pass to the right just fine but when it's time to stop he don't like to. But when I try to side pass him to the left he gets all nervous and tries to go forwards and tries to back up But sometimes he will do it to the left...any advise? I gotta have this under control before June!
Here's how I do it...ok to the right I just put pressure on his left side with my foot and pull slightly on the right rein and lay my left hand on his neck, and it works (except for the stopping, he don't like to) and to the left I put pressure on his right side with my foot and pull slightly on the left rein and lay my right hand on his neck.

Get a friend to push from the ground while you are on. Eventually the horse will realise to do it. Do the same with your hands though while your friend is pushing.

Reward him when he does it well and he will get it soon enough. My horse had the same prob. Work him more on his left than his right because you already know that he does it well that way.
