I think is qualifies for as a "tack" question, but I think it also directly relates to training. When do you (you personally) use boots on a horse you are jumping? Someone told me that I don't need them on my mare (we are just starting to train her in jumping). I don't usually ride with them when I ride her, but I do put them on other horses. I was told she "doesn't need them". I'm not sure I agree with this. Is it because we are just starting her training and the jumps are 2' AT MOST? Or do some horses really not need them if they have good jumping form? What did you use for training?

When starting a horse over jumps I don't use boots at all. Teaches them if they hit the pole it hurts and gets them to pick up their legs.
The exception is open front boots so the tendon is protected but the pole can be felt

I always put on open front jumping boots. Even if I'm just doing flat work.
