OUCHY! Poor horses!
You're not suppose to yank em. I hold my reins to a length that if I needed some quick control I could but I also make sure I give some slack.

I don't think a draft horse would do too well in barrel racing...

It's not always a matter of doing well, it's a matter of having fun. And in barrels you should generally keep your reins pretty short. I think my barrel reins are maybe 4.5 feet long form end to end. Maybe.

Yea, they just do it for fun. I don't think the horses have a whole lot of fun though
