So I have to move my TB to a new stable tomorrow. When I first picked him up in January, he loaded and unloaded without a fuss into a slantload WB size trailer. Last night I wanted to practice loading into a 2 horse straight load that he will be traveling in on Saturday.
He will walk up to the trailer and put one or both front feet in with no fuss, but once he goes to step up, freaks out and bots backwards. This trailer has the post down the center for the rear doors to attach to, I am thinking because he would load so well in a trailer with no post, it is making him claustrophobic? He makes an honest attempt to load until he has to move the rest of his body in. I think it looks too small for him in his eyes.
Should I just ask someone with a trailer like the first one move him, or keep at it until he loads in the straight load? I don't want to scar him or have it take 3 hours to load him...I am thinking I should just load him in what he is familiar than take a couple weeks to work on the other kind?
