Lunging Cash for the first time ...good grief!!(Sorry little long)
Ok so I decided I was really going to try and lunge Cash , even though I haven't done it before......Oh what a treat! At first he started going ok for a few minutes and then all of a sudden he tries to make a dash for the pasture while I am still holding on to him. I bring him back my way and he starts heading towards me head on , not fast but enough, I stop him about 2 ft in front of me and back him up. We go at it again and he goes good for a few minutes and then he starts coming towards me and I stop him again , this time I try and back him up and he WILL NOT MOVE . I was ok lets try this again so we start going at it he is going good again for a few minutes and than trys to dart back to the pasture. I got him back to me , tried backing him up , wouldn't move, tried shaking the lead rope nothing , tried a little pat with the stick part of the lunging whip nothing . I was like fine , I started lunging him again and this time stopped it before he could and patted him . I started walking him around on his rope and he did ok but when I was trying to get the gate open he wouldn't stay put behind me , was trying to come up closer behind me and didn't want to listen . I turned around and told him whoa and gave his halter a little firm jolt and got the gate open , walked him in and took off the rope . He stood by me for a minute or two and than headed towards my other gelding and first thing nipped Scooter in the butt and made him move. What went wrong ? I am blaming lack of experience on my part , but also some disrespect and who's boss issues with Cash . Any suggestions?
