mare with a temper when in heat

I've been working with this 6 year old quarterhorse mare a bit and she is a pleasure to ride....unless she's in heat. Then she will buck and rear and back up until she hits something. Is there anything I can do to calm this storm? Haha I'd prefer not to have to fight with her all the time and just get work done with her.
