momma and colt

Didn't know where to post this, but my Mare had a colt ten weeks ago, I have had them seperated from her other daughter, three years old and another horse 6 yrs old. Last Saturday I thought maybe they can be in one pasture again, but when I let Star, the other 3 yr old daughter, in the small lot Momma didn't like it at all, she kicked at Star and got her right in the chest then she bit her twice. Star wouldn't leave her alone. Plus Momma is still very protective of the colt. Not with me or any human just with the two other horses. Do you all think I should just put them all in one pasture (about two acres) and let them fight it out so to speak...

Put them in 2 separate fields that share a fence line, let them hang out like that for about a week. They can get to know each other and work out most of their issues over that without and hoof-horse contact.

After they seem to be getting along with each other or not even caring about the neighbors, then I would put the 6 year old horse in first. If that goes well, then add Star after a few minutes. Momma might have to explain some rules a little bit more, but most should be worked out from sharing the fence line.
