My Horse Runs Through My Hands

I recently got a new horse under the impression that she was fully trained and only to find out she is still green. She is great on the ground/lunging and responds well to voice cues but as soon as I get on her she thinks its a free for all and runs around like a maniac and totally ignores any cues I give her and fights with my hands the whole time. Any advice on how to get her to soften up and give in to my hands ?

Before answering, I would like to know how much experience you have and if you have experience working with a young or green horse.

No unfortunately I didnt ride her before and that was my own fault and it was a rushed thing. I've rode green horses before and worked with them , but I haven't come across one that just refuses anything the way she does.

Then unfortunately she needs to be sent to someone who can fill in the gaps of her training, she is not even greenbroke yet.

Well unfortunately I don't have the opportunity to send her away and i'm confident if given guidance or advice on somethings to do She will make progress.

I agree, it seems like you need professional help.

You don't have to send her away get a trainer to come out and help you.

That's why we ride before we buy ;) Unless the horse is purchased through word of mouth and you've seen it out being ridden etc.

The horse may not necessarily be as green as you think. How experienced a rider are you? I know plenty of very well trained horse (including a retired FEI dressage horse who is now a school horse), that will run straight through a novice rider's hands and trot around like a giraffe. Put an experienced rider on, and they're doing beautiful lateral work within minutes.

She isn't an OTTB by any chance is she? That could be a big answer right there if she is. She may not have been desensitized from track riding yet.... which means the more tighter the contact, the faster she will want to go, it's how track horses are trained.
