Sarah, I am so glad you posted this! I remember when you posted the first vid when you were looking at him. Clearly he just didn't *want* to be a Western horse, he looks so happy and relaxed moving forward.

Amazing job and he looks great. I *love* the later over fences photos, he is dead cute. I have complete confidence that you'll bring him out a Novice this summer.

    Keep us updated.

PS - I still like the name "Vin Diesel"

    I agree whole-heartly!

I adore that name, and it was going to be that or Tank, but I went and tried him so many times I got used to the name Tyhe... lol.

I also thought of "Rogaine" or "No Rogaine" for a show name and "Ro" for a barn name.

Update: Alrighty, we had a great ride, and for the first time in a long time we jumped a course larger than cross-rails.We jumped a 2'9" I guess you could say Equation course. He was a saint, had good distances, kept his stride open and constant, didn't over jump. He even got all of his changes over fences, we had to do maybe one simple. All I had to do was sit there, and give a half halt when he got to excited. I am very happy.

UPDATE: UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I went for a ride today, and well... ugh. The flat work was fantastic until we went to canter on the right lead, It took 3 tries to get it.... Then we decided to jump some, and although we were more forward than I like Tyhe was excellent over the crossrail, and the vertical, Then we decided to do a course, but I wanted to jump the large oxer by itself first... WRONG..... We go around to it straight, and get a long spot, but he pops his back, and over jumps massivly, I got left behind, he landed funny, and it was a miracle I managed to stay on.... so we get re-collected, went around to try it again, and over and over he kept jumping like a ....well.... deer. Finally we did one that was acceptable. And we decided to jump the smaller wider oxer just for good measure... we go up, and he tries to duck out*first time* I keep my leg on, and redirected him, and he kinda walk-hop-deer over it. At this point Im livid, because he never refuses.. and I begin to think somethings wrong.. but we have to correct that jump. So we do the crossrail again(well) and go back around, and re-jump the oxer pretty well. Not A-circuit well, but no over jump, no wanting to stop, etc... So we cooled out... I'm not sure whats wrong, but he's never like this... so Idk..

He had some welts on his neck(not large, and they didn't hurt when I pushed them, and felt them) so I felt it okay to ride.... So Im wondering if he didn't get stung, or bitten other places that made him uncomfortable to use his back end alot... because thinking back, he was a little hesitant to get on the bit, and he would round out, then try to disengage.. So we'll see how he is tomorrow... If I find any more welts, or if they're bigger, im going to give him some banimine and a break until theyre gone...

    My poor boy... =(

I would talk to your vet about using some form of allergy medication, rather than the banamine. I would try putting some hydrocortizone on those welts tonight...even if it's something other than a bug bite, there are analgesic type properties in that to help bring some of the swelling and discomfort down. There are different allergy meds that you can put in his feed as well, to help with this reaction, if that's what it is.
