Talking My western pleasure mare do barrels!!!

Okay, well there is this rather big show coming up on Feburary 28th, and last year I always get reserve champion and IM SICK OF IT! Ahaha so this year im going all out just to get Grand Champion and "Most Versitile". It's not a AQHA show so I really don't care. And in order to get that award this year I have to do one speed event, so im doing barrels, this shall be VERY interesting seeing that my horse is very slow-moving. We are doing Halter,Hunt seat, Western pleasure, horsemanship, showmanship, equitation, trail, and im just going to "Attempt" Cross rails and barrels, I will have my friends tape it so you guys can see. My horse does great with everything else. Her mother "Wishfully" was and is still the top AQHA Verisility mare in the AQHA.

I do everything on my horse and its so much fun! I would reccomend using a different bit (I use a hackamore) and then they know the difference. If you just wanna place and your mare can do flying lead changes I would try Poles. Around here its easier to place in that as long as you correct.

Good Luck!

Wow, I wish you luck. I can't wait to see video of that.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

I did barrels once with my all around horse to fill the class. It was hilarious!! There was a HUGE croud to sit there an laugh at all of us trying to make our horses go fast so the one barrel horse in the class could get a point. I just used it as practice for western riding and did a bunch of flying lead changes. It was a lot of fun! I even managed to get my horse to go a little faster than a canter at the end, it was amazing.

I was also doing it for a high point, I swear the photographer did something with the shudder speed to make me look like I was flying, LOL we did end up 4th out of 10. Now keyhole was a hole other story, he did the best sliding stop once he saw the chalk.
