I have had Dixie for a long time and I recently just bought a new horse named Grace. She just moved in last Saturday the 23rd. I let them just hang out by themselves for the first few days to get settled. Dixie used to never run from me when I went out to get her and also never tried to charge me. Grace is completely different she runs away and tries to charge me in the barn. I am not sure what to do. Grace is causing Dixie to also be a little rebellious. Now they both run and will not let me get near them. I find this odd.
I cut up some apples and walked around my pasture for an hour trying to catch Grace. I wanted to bathe and try to bond with her. Once I got them to run towards the barn, I shut the gates so they couldn't leave the barn (for a second time)... Dixie went right into her stall and was calm. Grace not so much. I could not even get close enough to get graces halter on. I did patiently wait for Grace to take the apple slice from my hand(she came to me several time for an apple slice). Once she took it she quickly moved. So i made SOME progress. I got to touch her for a few seconds twice. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do?
Also, Dixie is 22 and Grace is 25. Both horses are very spry for their age.
