need help!!! how do you teach a ottb to canter?

Hi all, I rescued an ottb back in january her last race was in september, she sustanded a suspention injury, something how people just throw away good horses, her price before the injury was $23,000. I bought her for $400. That's sad to me but i'm trying to give her a better life. Now completely healed.

Any way, I bought her for my hubby, who is a good rider, but doesn't have the patients to retrain, so that falls on me. She's not to spooky really, and listens well to pick up the pace and to slow down and stop, as we know ex race horse seem to forget what stop means. We trail ride and we like the different gaits not just walk all the time and changing is good for the horse, but when we want to go cantering down a path. Or in the arena, we ask her to pick up her pace and she just trots faster, or tries to run, which im not ready to let her do just yet.

My question is how do I go about teaching her to canter not just trot faster?

Here is her pic. I think well bred. Granddaughter of icecapade,

Ooh, she is pretty! Bless you for buying her!

I can't help with the training question, but ask Silent Assassin. She trains TB's and sometimes re-trains retired ones. I haven't seen her on her for a while, but maybe you could private message her? If not, I can give you her screen name on another forum, I think I saw her there recently. Ok, well, here it is anyway.

I much prefer this forum, but sometimes I hang out there a bit. http://forum.horse.com/ She is Luckintheshadows there. You can PM her if it doesn't work here... She is really good with TB's.
