Nervous Horse

Hello All!

I recently bought a horse... He was very relaxed at his old barn, but here he is just a bundle of nerves. I understand that it takes time for them to settle in, but it's been three weeks. I was wondering if there's anything that I could do to help him relax a bit?

Working him consistently, being a herd leader he trusts & respects and feeding him to suit his work level are a few things to consider.

Even though it's been three weeks, certain horses don't adjust well to new environments for 'longer' than normal; If you put him on a schedule (feed time is x, turn out is x, riding time is x, he comes back in at x) and help him learn what to expect, he'll eventually start to settle down. One thing to help build trust between you and him is to work with him on the ground (lunge in a round pen), and just spend time with him and let him know that even though this place is new and weird, you're pretty cool :3 Is it possible to contact his old owner and tell them what makes him nervous/his behavior in general, and maybe they can help you out?
