Wondering if anyone has experience in OTSBs. Not sure how relevant his trotting past is but the problem I am having is that my boy is breaking from trot into canter when I'm asking him to slow down or stop.
I'm wondering if a) im giving the cue wrong b) he doesnt know what the cue means or c) he's just excited and wants to run.
So basically what I do is stop posting the trot, sit deep, tell him "whoa" and then finally gently back on the reins. Whats happening is that the moment I stop posting he breaks into a canter. Then I have to pull him up fairly hard on the reins to stop him. Its all a bit messy!
My trainer is saying "circle him when he goes to take off" which I agree is probably better than fighting him on the reins.
I'm just thinking this might actually be rider error not horse naughtiness! So its no good circling him if I'm actually cueing him to canter.
We are just up to trot/canter with this horse so its a work in progress.
Any input gratefully accepted!
