Opinions on TBs as Barrel Horses

Hi everyone I am really anxious for some opinions on how people feel about using Thoroughbreds for barrel racing. I have always has QHs so when I acquired an eight year old ex-race horse I wondered if anyone has any experience racing the breed. He stands 17.2 hands tall, he is very easy to work with and has great speed but I don't know if he would have trouble turning as such a tall height?? Any experience, ideas, or opinions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Ive personally ran 2 locally and they did well and loved it. It really depends on wether they enjoy it and that you train them correctly for it. There is also a girl on YouTube who runs a tb named gemmas star I believe and they do very well also.
