My thoroughbred paces at the walk and my trainer and I have been working on keeping his back relaxed and when it is he has a really nice pure 4 beat walk but I think its hard for him to keep it long because he has been allowed to pace for so long by his previous owners Any ideas or exercises to help keep his walk 4 beat?

I'd say just keep him working on a 4 beat walk like you've been doing. His muscles will eventually get used t it and it will become easier for him to walk that way. It may just take time for his muscles to adjust! :)
