Thank you, everyone, for your nice comments. As you can see in the videos, Smokey still has quite a bit of spunk! His confidence level is almost too high at times! He is rather intolerant of anyone who treats him as if he is handicapped. For us, it's about me being able to keep up with him!

The bond that we have formed is far beyond explainable. I never know what we are capable of until I am on his back; there wasn't a single obstacle in the two Trail Challenges that we competed in that we couldn't do! ...and they were far from your average trail ride :)

I have been ridiculed for not putting Smokey down..."blind horses are not happy and should not be forced to live miserable lives", for example. My hope is to educate a few people as to how wonderfully rewarding it can be to put the time and effort into such an animal. Smokey is the epitome of a happy horse!

I would be more than happy to answer any questions.....

I'm sure its difficult and you have to have a great bond with the horse, but the outcome can be just as rewarding.

Here's a video of a woman and her blind horse in a trail class. Its absolutely amazing

Yes, it is the Oregon Horse Center. Smokey and I competed there in both 2007 and 2008. Though he loves the challenge of the trail, we are focusing our showing on Dressage this year. We are trail riding for fun and will hopefully make it to the beach this summer. Smokey was bred to be a racehorse, so running is his true love! The beach is the safest place for me to let him go all out.

All I have to say is that I'm glad that lady didn't put her horse down, I found out the other day that there are people that don't know enough about horses and put the horse down because they thought it was going crazy, she was in her 30's but she was still really healthy, just touchy due to the fact that there was obviously no trust between humans and the horse, there has been some inconsistent path with that horse that made her not trust so much.

you can start with nothing, and out of nothing or no way, a way will be provided.
