    Questions about lunging

Is lunging a good thing before rides? What is it used for?

The main reason of why I am asking is because I want to teach my horse to lunge. I had a sort of bad session with her last night, but I did manage to get her to do a few circles.

Anyone have any suggestions? I will answer questions if you want to know more about my horse.

I like to lunge before I ride to judge how my horse is feeling for the day. It is a good chance just to make sure she isnt sore or going lame (havent had that problem with April yer...knock on wood). They also have the chance to get the buck out if they feel the need to and April also loves to blow her belly up when I go to cinch her so I have a chance to tighten that up before I jump on. I also like to double line her which helps with her headset and learn to not drop the shoulder on the lope.

Just keep working on it, if you have a round pen that is best otherwise just take it in steps and it will come together.

I make Sonny go around me twice in both directions to see how he's going to be for the day. It shows how their attitude will be and if something is bothering them.
