refusal to load in trailer

My mare has always been a great loader. Except for yesterday. My other horse was screaming for her, and she just decided she wasn't going in. I had to lunge her for 30 minutes before she decided to load! She was being a total brat, reared up and kicked a dent in the trailer door!

I've loaded her at least 10 times since yesterday, and she has hopped right in each time. This morning I put her on the lunge line and pointed at the trailer, and she trotted right in.

So was yesterday just a "bad day" and nothing I should be concerned about? It seemed like she was just in a mood yesterday. When I took her out the gate, she had a "sour" look on her face, which is totally unlike her. She is usually easy going, and is normally the most non-moody mare I have ever met. That sort of behavior is really out of character for her!

I suppose she could be seasonal, but she never shows when she is in season...

Any ideas? Thoughts?

I think you did ok, you loaded her even though you had to lunge her first, and even more important you have loaded her several times since then so she didn't get away with anything. Good for you.
She may have been in season but that is no reason not to load and you made that clear to her.

I would guess it was just one of those days. Or something around the trailer really spooked the ba-jeebies out of her.

Nice work with loading her afterwords! That is a great idea =)
