We are probably going to take Sailor to the vet on Monday.
I just got back from the barn. I decided to lunge him in the round pen(no tack or lead rope) and he was acting very strange. After about a minute Sailor had his head and tail about as high as possible. He bucked a couple of times, too. His eyes had a crazed look to them and he kept speeding up. I dropped the whip and kept trying to get him to stop but he ran faster and faster. After a while, Sailor slowed to a trot but his head and tail were still just as high. His eyes were wide and he was stepping very high(very arabian looking).
I finally calmed him down and lunged Sailor with his lead rope on. He did fine. I then tacked him up and got on. For the first 2min, Sailor was pretty energetic and wanted to go faster and faster. Then, he pretty much stoped mid-canter and started to refuse wih ears pinned and buck-threats if I asked to him move on.
I got off and lunged him still tacked up. Sailor acted fine. I got back on and received the previous refusal results.
I'm confused. Does this still sound like a pain issue? Why was he acting that way during lunging?
