Smile rescued a horse who has been on 7 months of stall rest

I just rescued a TB gelding who, 7months ago cracked his elbow, he isn't sore and the vet said he can start back into light w/t work for a while. She said no circles though. What can I do to keep a 15-20min work out interesting and positive? I rode him for the first time a week ago and we just walked for about 8 mins trotted twice around the ring both directions. But I would like to know if there's other things I could do with him. Any suggestions?

Maybe try putting some poles down, or working with gates, or ??
You could set up obstacles in the arena and work him with those.
