Basically scaring your horse with anything you can think of until your horse isn't afraid of it anymore. Like throwing the lead rope around, flailing plastic bags near your horse / touching them with it, etc. It's a way to desensitize your horse to scary things.

Desensitising. It's known in some circles as 'sacking out' because people used to use sacks to do it. Basically the old style as I was taught is to tie the horse up to something it can't break(or throw it & keep it down) and 'whip' it all over with a sack(or whatever), until it eventually gives up fighting & 'submits'. This desensitises it to things touching & being thrown at it.

In behavioural terms, the type of desensitising above would be called 'flooding' and for a number of reasons I don't like it. I prefer gradual, 'approach & retreat' type desensitisation rather than 'sink or swim' 'break the spirit' tactics.

Loosie, this OP is UpandAbove from yesterday. The 13 year old that doesn't like advice. The pic for the ID's avatar is one she posted yesterday in a thread on how to clean a halter.

So calling troll alert.
