Selena went on the trail and didn't try to kill me!

So you guys may have seen my previous thread about Selena:

Well since then I took Selena on a couple walks down our home back trails, ponying her behind Rebel. The other days I was feeling brave, switched the saddle halfway down the trail, and rode her back home with Rebel following...NO problem, no offer to be dangerous.

Then me and mom went out together and I rode her up on some logging roads. She was fine! We ran around all over the place, even jumped a little log, bushwacked a little...It was a blast.

And on another note, Selena is terrified of bees (like, more so than other horses) and on the ride she suddenly froze up and started shaking. I had no idea, but I leaned back and looked and there were bees literally crawling on her legs and stinging her. I jumped off immediately and as soon as I had my feet on the ground she EXPLODED. We managed to run away and get the bees off, then we did what we could for the stings and went right back home...I lt may be stupid but I feel like she was waiting for me to get off before she panicked about the bees. Any other time and she absolutely freaks out. I am so proud of her. I'm sad she had to have that bad experience but it turned out the stings weren't as bad as we expected and she doesn't seem to mind me hand walking her back out on the same trail. I even got on bareback and sat on her while she grazed close tithe same area (After I double checked for nests, trust me...)

Anywho that's my story! I really love my horse right about now

Thanks Tiny! We have awful luck with bees. We got swarmed on a ride when I was a baby too riding with my mom and her friends, then me and Jester have run into nests twice and then once last year with Rebel...By now we are SO paranoid. Just glad Selena took care of me, especially given the history!

Good, wonderful, brave girl Selena! Its absolutely possible (and I'd even say probable. You guys have a great bond) that she knew to wait until you dismounted to flip out. And I'm glad that she doesnt seem to associate the trail with bees ;) that just wouldn't be good!

Congrats! That sounds like a great ride. I think that she might have waited for you, you have spent a lot of time with her and you have a bond.

That's such wonderful news!! Bees are so mean.. sheesh. It truly does seem like she wanted you safe before she freaked out. I'm sure she was loving spending time with you on the trails :)
