How do you teach a horse to pivot for Showmanship?

I have been trying to teach my QH pivots for Showmanship, but when I ask him, he just turns his head and curves his body and then moves his back feet as well.

If you want to be competitive in showmanship, yes you should have a horse that pivots on the turn around. When you teach your horse to pivot, you don't put any pressure on the lead, or his head, it's all about the shoulder moving and the back end staying in place. A pivot is a forward movement, think forward, the minute he backs to turn, stop and walk him forward. Check on Youtube for videos, by the sounds of your horse's reaction to you teaching him to turnaround, you are doing it wrong. It's about forward and moving the shoulder.

Here are some vidoes that will help you
First is ahorse that already knows how to do an in hand pivot

Second video shows teaching ahorse that does not know how to do that in hand pivot, and the last one, is of a horse , just learning to be handled, so starting at the very very beginning

True, that in the end, you want that horse to step around, planting that pivot foot, as you move towards that shoulder, without pulling on the lead shank or touching the horse, however in the beginning you might need both, to teach the horse the concept
