I agree with both sides! To me, it depends on the horse.
If she is sensitive, a halter will do the trick, But if she is "heavy" you might be better off with the side pull!
I would also have to ask how much ground work has she had and what has been used on her, as well as are you wanting to ride her with the side pull or are you using it in her ground work?
There are to many questions to answer you honestly.
If you are happy with your trainer and plan on using him for the duration, I would suggest following his instruction.
Hope that helps some!

The questions you need to consider are:

How long do you want to train her in it?

How extensively do you want to train her in it?

How much are you willing to spend?

Are you willing to sacrifice quality for saving a few bucks?

How accurate do you want your cues to be?

Thanks guys for your advise... I just wasn't sure on if she would get the same concept with a halter and me using that along with leg pressure ques to using a side pull. and i really don't want to spend a whole lot of money but i wasn't sure how much of the risk it would be to take the cheaper way out then investing in proper equipment

My boyfriend told me to pick between him and my horse. I better go get my saddle </3
