Slow lope without breaking gait
Lenox, my mom's Percheron, would much rather do a fast trot at the speed of a canter than actually canter. When I push her for the canter, it's an all-out canter, and any attempt to slow it down through my seat or legs results in her slipping into the fast trot again. She adjusts her pace at the jog through my seat and legs, but the canter is another story. She showed WP in fair yesterday with a beautiful jog, but was out of the running as soon as they asked for a lope. Any advice? My mom's considering sending her to a WP trainer for a few months to get the kinks sorted out, but I'd much rather try to fix it myself.
