Cool Stacy Westfall/Others?

I've been watching her on youtube, and reading her website and alot if it seems really promiseing. Since Chance is just hopefully going to start getting back into work here soon [vet is coming tuesday to check her out] its time to experiment with a few different training methods. It would even help with Little and any other horses I may soon be working with.

Im loving the fact its not $110.99 for ONE DVD that doesnt give any real information.

So anything you would suggest, which dvds I should look into?? Any other trainers??? Even some books.. but im more visual.

Im open to anything. I really want to open my mind to other trainers and have my training tool box over filled Be able to use what ever works for the horse not force anything onto the horse that just doesnt work.

Instead of spending money on book and DVD's, I would be spending that money on lessons with a trainer. IYou just can't get the type of help from a dvd or book than you can from someone there in real life - You can ask questions, they can see you and your horse, etc.

HAF, it was another thread about Stacy's DVDs very recently in this section. I only have seen her youtube and in person, so can't comment on her dvds.

I found CA getting respect on ground being very useful (also his "solving problems" is a rip off for the money and advertising). I also have couple old videos (got it from friend for free :) ) by Buck Brannaman: groundwork and hackamore (Buck Brannaman). I bet Craig Cameron should be very cool (at least his in person clinics are informative and fun to watch).

Hmm, okay ill go on a search for that thread.

What didyou think of her when you saw her in person???

I did a litle of CA a year or so back and I felt like he was a little to harsh for my likings, but I did try it on my mare and she had a negitive effect. She liked the parelli way of doing ground work. But no I was to find some new information :)

Ill take a look at the other 2 you mentioned!

Thanks for replying.

I think the first video that I would recommend is "Basic Body Control".

I don't think the videos set the world on fire but they are solid and have good information in them.

She's very reasonable in her approach to training. Not harsh, but clear and depends on horse personality, and easy to understand and follow (which is not always a case for every trainer). Her demonstration was interesting. :)

I do think she bragged too much about how those 24 feet yacht ropes (she's selling ) better than lunge. I really dislike when people starting advertise what they sell in demonstrations, but... It's a matter of taste I guess.

BTW, I agree CA is somewhat harsh. I think his methods are great for some horses (worked for my qh, who tried to walk over top of me), but not so much for very sensitive ones.

The best videos I have watched are Buck Branamans videos groundwork and the first ride. Ray Hunt has a DVD called Back to the Beginning that is excellent. In fact all of Ray and Bucks DVD's are very very good and while they may lack some of the polish and shine that you get with the newer videos they make up for it in no-nonsense substance.

I totally agree with you about Jonathan Field. I saw him at the Mane event in Vancouver and he is awesome. My friend took a 3 day clinic with him a few months ago and said it was awesome. His training facility is about half hour from me so I am thinking next year when we back Hunter I am going to go to one of his clinics.
