Default Teaching him finesse with his feet??

As most of you know, I just started my Percheron stud John under saddle recently. I was wondering if anyone had any tips to teach him some finesse with his feet and the way that he travels. He just kinda flops his front feet out there and they hit the ground really hard. I am concerned that it is hard on his knees. I don't know if it is just because of his animated gaits or if it is something that can be corrected. It also may just be that he is young and is inexperienced under saddle and some will work itself out in time. I just don't know. I was hoping that someone on here would have some tips for teaching him to be a little more careful with his feet. I don't have any good video that really show how he travels. This is the only video that I have. I know that there are some gaps in his training but keep in mind that it is only his 3rd ride in the vid. Also, please don't critique my riding, I know it is horrible. Any tips or advice are welcome. Thank You.

I agree with Spyder. In hand work does wonders to a horse's organization.
Beautiful horse, btw! Wow! :)
