Thank you....

Last week I asked for advice on my Paint who moves when I mount. Many of you were kind enough to respond.

Horse moves when I mount

Well, I was gone to a dog show all last week and today was the first time I was able to go out to see the horse since I posted. Sure enough, he was moving the second I swung my leg over. I backed him up twice the amount of steps he took. He didn't like it. Teehee!

I got down and we did it again. He moved five steps, he backed ten. We did it again and again until finally he stood still. Well, until I moved a bit to get comfortable. So we backed up again.

I wasn't necessarily gentle with him, I let him know I meant it.

Finally, I got up, moved around, all the time telling him to whoa and stand still. Then he got praised and I gave him a cue to move forward.

Then he did it again and got praised even more.

So hopefully the light bulb will come on a bit quicker for him the next time, but I wanted to let you all know we're working on it and your suggestions worked.

Thanks again.

Laura

That's great news. It's always nice to know that forums like these can help us solve problems. He'll be standing like a rock in no time.
