Okay so in july I got a 3 year old paint, for my mother. I've been working with him and he's really sweet but he's alert and thinks everythings out to get him. When I take him away from the others I can saddle him up in the round pen when he has no halter on and he will fallow me when I get the bridle and let me put it on. No one could touch his back or back legs and or his ears. And now I can put my arms on his back and rest on him, rub his face, touch his rump. And almost pick up his back legs without him jerking his legs.
He lounges really well but when I ask for a canter he gets a speedy trot or a fast canter. I've tryed alot to slow him down but he wont. I have to stop him to get him to look at me.
When I took him trail riding near us its called the sand hills and my friend brought her barrel horse and we loaded them together and they were fine and when we got there we saddled and got on. We walked for a bit and he spooked at a flat metal post on the ground. And he shot sideways and I found out I grabed the wrong saddle it was my moms adn the sturrips were shorts so after he calmed down I changed them. And then we rode for a while and he wouldnt cross a stream (neither would we don't know why) and we have crossed a stream at my house that was way bigger bareback with a halter on. And we cantered a bit after a few hours when we saw the trailer. And he took off bucking and I stoped him and made him back up. And he was fine after that and we made our way to the trailer and everyone thought he was 8 years old and was serprised when I said he was 3.
Any way to get him to calm down and just be a better horse?
