Training Courses

Hey everyone!

I have a young gelding (3-ish) who will soon be ready for saddle breaking, but in the meantime we are working on walking over poles, really small jumps, through cones, etc.

But he's pretty much not even blinking at that stuff and I can tell he's starting to get bored.

So, what else can we do? There's not a lot of stuff out at the barn, but I can bring stuff with me. I'm looking for things that will help him in getting ready for breaking, and also keep him entertained (he's VERY curious and gets bored easily).

I was thinking I might get a big yoga ball for him to push around, but other than that I am lost.

Have you done any ground driving? That's probably the closest you can get to riding without riding. That opens up a whole new world of exercises for both of you. If you've never done it before, however, call on an experienced person to teach you how to do it safely and effectively. When I was working with my guy to get him ready for saddle work, that was our last step.

good to do...i don't myself, but only out of stubborness. besides driving you can start doing all your ground work with whatever bridle you want to start him in...let him figure out how to carry it before you start to use it for communicating
