I started todays session with desensitizing with the stick and string tossing that up over her head, neck back and around her legs and butt. She didnt care, so started whipping the ground in front of, and on both sides of her. Again she didnt care, she was looking around at everything else that was more interesting. On yesterdays session I forgot to "test" her desensitizing while she was moving her feet. So I put about 6 feet between us, asked her to walk behind me and I was whipping the ground in front of her, and the best I could on both sides, she did not care!!
After that we worked on walking forward with direct and indirect pressure on her cue to "walk", no problem, have to work on the indirect a little more but she has a pretty good idea of what I am askng but we need to make it more smooth.
Lastly I played with ground tying, I have never done this with any of my horses. Once I got her established on not following me, she quickly learned when that rope 'drops' that means stay put. I was walking about 20' to both sides and directly behind, half circles on both sides, and finally a full circle about 20' away from her. I really got a huge kick out of watching her turn her head side to side when I was making a full circle around her jogging, I swear she was thinking "you idiot, what the heck are you doing??" She had both ears forward watching me but kept those feet still.
Well that's it for today, I am just so happy with her progress I just had to share it with someone!! Thanks for listening. If my friend comes out today I will try and get some pics to go along with the post.
EDIT: Oh! I almost forgot, when we were done I took her up to the hitching post, just put rope over the post and left about 4 foot of slack in it, didnt tie her, went into the barn to get a brush, came back and she never moved!! I was SOOOO PLEASED!!!
