I do not jump, and never have - not on purpose.
My daughter wanted to jump. I have also been around horses all my life, but the thought of teaching her something I had no knowledge of didn't enter my mind. Instead, I took her to a facility that had a hunter jumper program and let professionals instruct her. She was to young to drive, so I had nothing better to do than to watch the entire "process". It was a very professionally run outfit. If it were me, I would investment in at least some of that sort of similar training and environment (other beginners w similar interest, advanced students that were once beginners, knowledgeable professionals to instruct and assist, help w shows). If nothing else - it is "inspiring".
There is just as much horse sense as ever, but the horses have most of it.
